Egy hónap múlva, október 13-án kezdődik Balatonfüreden a 49er, 49er FX és a kéttestű Nacra17 osztályok U23-as Európa-bajnoksága Balatonfüreden. A verseny kétszeresen is kiemelt jelentőségű a magyar vitorlázásban, egyrészt még soha nem rendeztek a Balatonon nemzetközi versenyt high-performance olimpiai osztálynak, másrészt pedig ez a verseny a Magyar Vitorlás Szövetség új, füredi kikötőjében rendezett első nemzetközi vitorlásverseny.

„Ezeknek az osztályoknak Magyarországon nem volt még világversenye, ezért hatalmas fegyvertény, hogy az idei évben az U23-as korosztályú Európa-bajnokságot itt, Balatonfüreden rendezhetjük meg” – mondta Cserép Csaba, a magyar 49er osztály osztálykapitánya, a rendező egyesület, a Balatonfüredi Yacht Club elnökségi tagja. „A 49er, a 49er FX és a kéttestű Nacra 17 azok az olimpiai osztályok, amelyek teljesítményüknél fogva a jövőt képviselik. Ebben a mezőnyben feltehetően lesz egy-két versenyző, akikkel talán már a párizsi játékokon is találkozhatunk.” – tette hozzá Cserép Csaba.

 

Az Európa-bajnokságot rendező klub, a Balatonfüredi Yacht Club Magyarország legrégebbi, 1867-ben alapított vitorlásklubja. A klub kulcsszerepet játszik az utánpótlásfejlesztésben és a tehetséggondozásban, és nemzetközileg is tapasztalt szakmai stábbal rendelkezik. Több nagy nemzetközi verseny, kontinens-, illetve világbajnokságok, Európa Kupák sikeres rendezésén vannak már túl (csak példaként: Laser 4.7 világ- és Európa-bajnokság, Laser U21 világ- és Európa-bajnokság, Laser Európa Kupa, J24 Európa-bajnokság). A verseny társrendezője a Magyar Vitorlás Szövetség.

„A nyár közepén lett hivatalos, hogy az Európa-bajnokságot eredeti helyszínén nem tudják megrendezni, így új pályázatot írtak ki, amelyen rajtunk kívül egy spanyolországi helyszín aspirált. Végül a BYC nyerte el a rendezés jogát, ami nagy öröm és megtiszteltetés, de egyben teher is, hiszen jóval kevesebb idő állt rendelkezésre a felkészüléshez, mint egy »normál« időben elnyert rendezés esetén” – mondta Böröcz István, a rendező BYC ügyvezető igazgatója. „Örülünk, hogy megmutathatjuk, mire vagyunk képesek, gyönyörű tavi környezetben, nemzetközi hátterű gárda rendezésében, jó versenyekkel és színes programokkal várjuk a felnőtt mezőny küszöbén álló U23-as generációt.”

 

Általában a junior versenyeken a 49er osztályban 60-80 hajó szokott elindulni a fiúk között, az FX-ben pedig 40-50 egységgel versenyeznek. A Nacra osztály nehezebb dió, mert van, amikor 8-10 hajó is elindul, de tavaly például a Junior EB nem is került megrendezésre. A szervezők azért remélik, hogy ott is összejöhet egy tíz hajós mezőny. Hatalmas lehetőség a magyar fiatal versenyzőknek, hogy hazai vizeken, barátságos környezetben, az utazás kényszere nélkül versenyezhetnek nagyon komoly mezőnyben, amelyben feltehetően a jövő olimpiai résztvevői, talán bajnokai is versenyeznek.

Az Európa-bajnokság megnyitója és az első versenyzői meeting október 12-én lesz, a futamok másnap, 13-án kezdődnek. A verseny selejtezőkre és döntő futamokra bomlik, a döntő futamokat a tervek szerint október 15-én és 16-án rendezik, majd aznap a díjkiosztóval zárul az Európa-bajnokság. A versenyzők a Kékszalag port vadonatúj infrastruktúráját vehetik igénybe, a szervezők minden nap a futamok után snackkel és gyümölccsel várják őket a kikötőben és két közös vacsorát is terveznek.

 

A hajóosztály hazai történetéről:

Miután a 2000-es sydneyi olimpián debütált a 49er, fiatal magyar vitorlázók – köztük néhány olimpikon – megvásárolták és hazahozták az első néhány 49ert. A versenyzés hamarosan beindult, és 2001-ban rendezték meg az első Országos Bajnokságot 10 hajóval. Bár voltak hullámvölgyek, most azt látjuk, hogy a 29-esből kijövő fiatalokkal reneszánszát éli az osztály nálunk.

This will be the first time for an international race to be held on Hungarian waters for the high-performance Olympics classes. The U23 fleet of the 49er, 49er FX and the Nacra17 classes are going to race in Balatonfüred at the European Championship in the middle of October.  The organizers are expecting more than 50 boats.

Exactly a month from now, on the 13th of October, the U23 European Championship for the 49er, 49er FX and the multihull Nacra17 sailing classes will begin in Balatonfüred. The race is extremely important for Hungarian sailing because there has never been an international race organized here at Lake Balaton for the high-performance Olympic classes. This will also be the very first international race taking place at the brand-new harbour of the Hungarian Yachting Association.

“These classes have never had an international competition in Hungary, so it is a huge achievement that this year we can organize the U23 European Championship here in Balatonfüred,” said Csaba Cserép, captain of the Hungarian 49er class, board member of the organizing club, the Balatonfüred Yacht Club. “The 49er, 49er FX and multihull Nacra 17 are the Olympic classes that represent the future in terms of performance. There will probably be one or two competitors here in this race, who we can perhaps meet at the Paris Games.” added Csaba Cserép.

The club organizing the U23 European Championship, is the Balatonfüred Yacht Club, Hungary’s oldest sailing club, founded in 1867 in Balatonfüred. BYC plays a key role in the country’s youth sailing and talent development, and has an internationally experienced, professional crew. They have successfully organized several major international competitions, European and World Championships, Europa Cups (for example: Laser 4.7 World and European Championship, Laser U21 World and European Championship, Laser Europa Cup, J24 European Championship). The competition is co-organized by the Hungarian Sailing Association.

„It only became official in the middle of summer that the European Championship could not be held at its original location, so a new bid was issued for hosting the race. There were two aspirants, but in the end BYC won the right to organize it. This is a great honour and pleasure, but also a bit of burden, since there wasn’t as much time left for preparation – as in the case of a bid won in a ‘normal’ time,” said István Böröcz, executive director of the organizer BYC. „We are happy to be able to show what we are capable of, so we are looking forward to hosting the U23 generation in a beautiful lake environment, with good races and colourful programs, organized by a team with international background.”

Usually in the junior races, 60-80 boats would start in the 49er class, and 40-50 boats in the 49er FX. The Nacra 17 class is a tough nut to crack because there are times when 8-10 boats are racing, but last year, for example, the Junior EB was not even held. That said, the organizers hope that at least 10 teams will enter. It is a great opportunity for the young Hungarian sailors to race in domestic waters, in a friendly environment, without the need to travel, in a very serious fleet, in which, presumably, future Olympic participants and perhaps even Olympic champions will compete.

The opening ceremony of the European Championship and the first meeting for the racers will take place on the 12th of October. The actual races will start the following day, on the 13th of October. The competition is divided into qualifiers and finals. The final races are planned to be held on October 15 and 16. The European Championship will end with the award ceremony on the 16th of October. Competitors can use the brand-new facilities of the Kékszalag port, meanwhile the organizers await them with snacks and fruit every day after the races, and plan two official dinners.

About Balaton:

The location of the European Championship is lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe, with a southwest-northeast axis. It is a beautiful protected natural area, with extremely clean fresh water. Balaton is characterized by variable but generally balanced wind conditions, with moderate wind (10-15 knots) blowing on a typical October day. During weather fronts, the prevailing wind is strong from the NW-SE direction (15-25 knots). There is no current, the waves are typically short. The temperature in October: air (10-18 °C), water (14-18 °C). The competition area will be in the Balatonfüred-Tihany-Siófok triangle.
